What You Get When You Book Me to Teach Your Seminar
With over 20 years of international teaching experience and a lifetime dedication to martial arts since 1984, I bring a unique, adaptable approach to seminars and workshops. Having dedicated myself to martial arts as a full-time profession since 2007, I run two successful academies and travel extensively to teach at large martial arts camps, both locally and internationally. I also conduct introductory seminars in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Kali for practitioners from various martial arts backgrounds. Additionally, I serve as the head instructor for affiliated schools in Kali Self Defence and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, visiting 1-2 times a year to teach and assess students’ progress.
A Multi-Disciplinary Approach
My martial arts journey spans a wide range of disciplines, giving me a well-rounded understanding across the weapon range (Kali), striking range (Kickboxing, Karate, and Muay Thai), and grappling range (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu). This diverse experience allows me to connect with participants of all backgrounds, making complex concepts approachable and relevant for everyone.
An Engaging, Informal Teaching Style
I believe in keeping seminars relaxed and inspiring. My classes are designed to make even the most challenging techniques accessible, breaking them down into easy-to-follow steps. My goal is for participants to leave with both practical skills and a clear understanding of what they’ve learned, not just a memory of being part of the “show.”
Professional Yet Approachable
Whether at large camps, affiliated schools, or during a first-time visit, I bring a down-to-earth approach to every seminar. I enjoy meeting new people, sharing meals, and immersing myself in the local culture. All I need is a clean place to stay and a chance to connect with the participants.
If you’d like to book me for a day or weekend seminar, feel free to reach out to discuss your requirements. I’m happy to answer any questions and make the booking process easy, ensuring a rewarding experience for your school or event.
Introduction to
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
I offer a range of seminar and teaching options to suit different needs, and here are three of the most popular requests from schools and camps. Each course is tailored to provide practical skills, engaging instruction, and valuable insights—whether your focus is on introducing BJJ, supporting older practitioners, or enhancing your program with a guest instructor.
Introduction to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Description:
This introductory course is designed for newcomers to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, as well as for martial artists from other disciplines, such as Karate, Taekwondo, Japanese Ju Jitsu, and similar arts, who want to familiarize themselves with the ground game. Offered as an in-house seminar at your school or at larger martial arts camps, this course covers the essential principles and techniques of BJJ. Participants will learn foundational movements, key positions, and basic submissions, providing a strong base in ground fighting concepts.
Target Audience:
- Beginners interested in BJJ
- Martial artists from other styles who want to add ground-fighting skills to their repertoire
- New BJJ clubs or schools without black belt instructors, seeking structure, curriculum, and grading support
Course Length:
3 hours per day
Prerequisites:
No prior experience in BJJ is required. Participants should have a general level of fitness and a willingness to learn and engage in hands-on practice.
BJJ for Practitioners Over 40
Description:
This course is tailored specifically for practitioners over 40, emphasizing a smart, sustainable approach to training that minimizes the risk of injury and maximizes longevity on the mat. As someone who began BJJ in my 40s and earned my black belt under Professor Roy Dean, I understand the unique challenges and needs of older practitioners. In this course, you will learn techniques and strategies to conserve energy, avoid unnecessary strain, and adapt your game to work effectively without relying on brute strength or speed. This training helps older practitioners stay active in BJJ longer, reducing pain and promoting a “no-injury” training environment.
Target Audience:
- BJJ practitioners aged 40 and over
- Martial artists who want to explore BJJ without compromising longevity
- Instructors who wish to develop safer training methods for older students
Course Length:
3 hours per day
Prerequisites:
Open to BJJ practitioners of any level who are over 40. Participants should have a reasonable level of fitness, as this course focuses on building technical skills rather than intense physical conditioning.
Guest Instructor for Your School or Camp
Description:
As a guest instructor, I bring over a decade of BJJ teaching experience directly to your school or larger martial arts camp. Whether you’re looking for specific instruction on guard passing, submissions, defensive strategies, or training methods for longevity, I can tailor my teaching to meet the needs of your students. My adaptable style allows me to work seamlessly as part of a diverse instructor team, providing fresh insights and engaging lessons that enhance the overall camp experience. My goal is to deliver high-quality, practical instruction that gives participants valuable tools for their BJJ journey.

This system, rooted in Filipino martial arts, has been widely recognized and utilized in military training for elite forces worldwide, due to its effectiveness in real-life, high-stakes scenarios.
Course Structure
Our knife defense training is divided into three progressive levels to suit varying experience and skill levels. Each part of the course lasts approximately 3 hours.
Knife Defense Level 1: Basics of Knife Defense
This foundational course covers the essential principles of knife defense, focusing on what to do when confronted by an attacker wielding a knife or similar weapon. Participants will gain awareness of the risks involved and learn the basics of movement, positioning, and avoidance strategies to minimize the chance of injury.Knife Defense Level 2: Advanced Reflex and Flow
Building on the fundamentals, Level 2 enhances reflexes and introduces flow drills, enabling participants to handle more complex attacks, including feints and unexpected moves. This level is designed to develop instinctive responses under pressure.Knife Defense Level 3: Knife-on-Knife Drills and Defense
This advanced level is focused on understanding how knives work in close-combat scenarios, with drills involving knife-to-knife encounters. Completing the previous two levels is mandatory for participating in this course, as it requires a solid foundation in knife handling and defensive skills.Knife Course for Martial Arts Clubs
Tailored specifically for martial artists, this course focuses on knife defense techniques that complement existing skills in distance, zoning, and timing. With extensive experience across martial arts disciplines, our instructor adapts training to integrate with participants’ primary styles.
A Basic Knife Course is No GuaranteeWhen faced with an attacker holding a sharp blade, the situation is dangerous regardless of skill level—whether you’re a beginner or have decades of combat experience. It’s essential not to harbor illusions about one’s abilities; a knife in skilled hands is extremely difficult to defend against.
Because of this harsh reality, it’s crucial to have strategies prepared in advance in case such a situation arises. As with all self-defense, the primary rule is to avoid the situation whenever possible. Often, one’s own lack of awareness or judgment can lead to dangerous circumstances. However, sometimes life-threatening situations unfold faster than one can assess or react, and staying calm is essential.
For those working in environments where these threats are more likely, being prepared with effective knife defense techniques and strategies is invaluable.
